We arrived in Riga on the 18th July around mid day. We parked our camping cr in the city parking and took our tandem to the old city.
We had a plan for the day, which was
• Walk through the old town
• Try a traditional Latvian lunch
• Spend time in the art nouveau district
• Visit the new town
We managed to do all. We started with the lunch. Dzirnavas (the mill), a lovely traditional Latvian restaurant. This is one of the most popular amongst the locals. Latvian farm house style restaurant has a buffet for your choice. The food is decent and a great atmosphere and a great place to observe the local life. A must go according to us…
The walking tour in the old city and the new city took us about 3 hours…. Powder tour, war museum, Swedish gate, nice churches, freedom monument, opera house are some of the highlights out of many more.
Riga reminds me of Paris… this comparison has been made by critics many times before and I believe that it is true….
We had an evening cruise on the river and it was fun…..
Now we sit in the motor home, having dinner and writing articles to the web… soon we will head out to have a sun downer on the 26th floor of a nice hotel…. La vie en rose
