Tallinn, Estonia, Estland

We started our journey towards Tallinn around noon on the 19th July from Riga. We arrived in the city camping of Tallinn around 5 pm and found it a bit artificially located in an industrial area, but it is very central to all the main attractions of the city. We took our tandem and did a city tour for about an hour. We went to the harbor, port, cruise ship harbor, ferry harbor and sea plane harbor. The view is breath taking. Even though many cruise ships arrive day after day and the place is filled with tourists, one can still enjoy the nice corners of the city. We decided not to go to the old city on the first day as we planned to do on the 20th. So we stayed in the newer area of the city and had a drink at a nice restaurant near the yacht harbor. Nice sail boats… most from Germany and Finland, some from France, Netherland and etc.
It was 10 pm in the night still it felt like 4pm in Sri Lanka… bright sun light… warm and windy….
Then we decided to go to a roof top bar that the Baltic capital Guide book suggested and found out that this particular guide book suggests the same hotel for Tallinn, Riga, Vilnius et al. So we turned back and went to a biker’s pub. A lot of huge motor bikes.. I can not name them as my knowledge on motor bikes is very poor, well built men.. Nice looking women who keep them company and beer. And also food music.
We came back to our motor home around mid night.
20th July: We started our tandem tour to the old city around 10am. First stop was he Café Bonaparte, une boulangerie Francaise… quell Bonheur… We enjoyed an almond croissant and a good hot chocolate bought from the café, on while walking through the old roads of Tallinn. The ancient city is so picturesque. I have no words to explain the beauty. So far the best Baltic city I have visited during our trip. The color of the house, the architecture, the size, the facades… all unique…
We took the Tallinn city tour bus ….. We drove all 3 lines of the bus…. 16 Euros per person and you see a great deal of places. Vinu square is the main place of the city, Toompea castle, open air meseum, Estonian Maritime museum, freedom square, Estonia national theatre, art museum of Estonia, Kadriord palace, Pirita convent, TV tower and the song festival ground are the main attraction of the Tallinn city. This tour made us see most of the new and the old places with great value.
After having a small snack for lunch we strolled in the roads of the old city, Upper town is extremely beautiful with its cathedrals. We were lucky to witness an orthodox wedding. This was the first time for me to see a Christian orthodox wedding ceremony in a church. I was amazed. Different cultures, different traditions….
